My HTC Thunderbolt, Note 2, and currently, Note 4 all had moments when the only thing I could do was pull the battery. Has phone tech improved that in a case where time was the only thing you could do was pull the battery and reset, isn't as necessary?

Depending on the phone, usually holding down some combination of the buttons (usually the power button and volume down button at the same time) for a period of time, 20 to 40 seconds, will force shutdown and reboot. That's the nearest thing to a battery pull you can get now.

Fair enough. My poor Note 4 is probably going bye bye soon, and I wanna get a Note 8, but I was curious about the battery issue.

My last two phones have been the note 5 and 8, and I've had them both since launch. Never have I ever run into a situation where I needed a battery pull to solve the problem, that's such a 2013 problem man. Retire that dinosaur, wake up and smell the mid 2010's before they pass you by

What do u consider a good deal? Cause Ebay has great deals on then now, especially since the S10 came out n note 10 is soon to launch? If u have a contract phone, they really have good deals on unlocked ones.

Yes,pressing the power and volume up,and or Bixby button is only thing to reset phone as if u took out battery n put back in.For the life of me,I dont know why these makers wont leave well enough alone if it works great.Other than money wise, why would u make the battery where its mounted to the phone.what if someone's battery goes out.U have to do to much just to fix it.All my galaxy phones n I had S5 n above,I used to buy me like 3 extra batteries just to have n case I needed them, but cant do that with S6 and down.smh! Why make things that work complicated when there's no need.i cant think of one good pro but alot of cons,as to how mounting battery into phone helps us!

For almost all Android devices, pressing and holding Power for 20 seconds or so will force a shutdown, even if the phone frozen. Samsung requires you to press and hold Power and Vol Down for about 20 seconds.
