I'm having overheating problems with my note 9. I desperately need to find apps that will list the CPU and RAM usave of all running aps, and an app that will allow me to control which apps are allowed to automatically start on their own. I need to get these apps under control.

I need to figure out what's stressing out my phone! It's draining the hell out of my battery and overheating my phone and I can't figure out what's running that's doing this. I have a lot of apps on this phone.

Please help with any information you think might be helpful! And if you know any apps that do these things, please tell me!

Please I really need help! I have serious medical issues and depend on this phone for help.

I upgraded Android from 9 to 10 on my Note 9 last night and ever since then, my phone has been getting really hot and overheating. It's interrupting the charging cycles on my battery and it's charging extremely slowly. I started charging it about 4 hours ago and its only at 57%.

I've turned off just about every app I can think of manually, I even tried turning off the wireless with airplane mode since most of the heat seems to be coming from around where the wireless chip is. I don't understand what's causing this! Please help! I need this phone for medical issues and I'm getting really stressed out from this. It's making my medical problems worse. I'm starting to panic and I don't know what to do. I have a tele doctor appointment coming up in a few days and my phone is running really really hot!

Today I left a charging and when I came back, the phone was off, It was really hot, the battery was dead, it wasn't charging, and wouldn't turn on. I had to unplug it and let it cool down before it would even start charging again. What's causing this! Why is this happening? How do I fix this! Please help!

Do you get a overheating notification?

One of the main culprits to exclude would be poor or unreliable cell signal, which is a common cause of battery drain.

Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

    1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
    2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which may show Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
    3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
    4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

    http://forums.androidcentral.com/gen...d-central.html
You might have to install a 3rd party battery monitor, like GSam Battery Monitor, to get the Cell Signal Strength graph.

To control apps more tightly, you could try Greenify, which has been around for a while.

No I never got any notification telling me my phone was overheating....

I don't think that's it because I turned on airplane mode to turn off wireless and nothing changed. Nothing changed at all.

This started after I upgraded from Android 9 to Android 10. Something went wrong. I don't understand what happened.

Furthermore, I just set my phone down to go to the bathroom, grab a snack, and do a few things, and came back a few hours later in my phone had actually lost 16% charge while it was plugged in and it was really hot when I picked it up. Something isn't right. The whole top of the phone is hot.

Also you should keep in mind that when I first found my phone like this, It was off because the battery drained while it was plugged in charging. Even though it was off, and the battery was drained, it was still overheating from trying to charge even though it was off. It couldn't have been the wireless overheating because the phone wasn't even on. This only started after I installed Android 10. What the heck could have possibly done this?!

Also I don't think this is an app problem anymore. This happened after I installed the update. I think something went wrong with the update.

    I found this:

    https://thedroidguy.com/how-to-fix-s...rheats-1097647

Is this what I'm going to have to do? Clear the cache and if that doesn't work, reset?

What happens if I clear the cache? Is that going to blank out all my logins and passwords and I'll have to log back into everything? Will that delete anything?

I'm trying to prepare for the worst by trying to figure out how to back up my phone, but I can't figure out how to backup all these folders.

Wiping the cache partition is always a good idea in situations like this. No important personal data is lost -- this is all just temporary cached data for the system, and sometimes after a major system update, some old data can linger around and cause problems.

Here's another guide for wiping the cache, in case the one you linked doesn't work: https://www.t-mobile.com/support/dev...g-galaxy-note9

Okay something is really really really wrong. Now the battery is even draining down to zero when I turn the phone off! Something's wrong! I turned the phone off all day while I was busy doing stuff, and when I came back to start packing it up, it was completely dead. The battery was drained down to zero. It was turned off! I plugged it in and it started charging from 0%! I recently had this battery replaced. What the hell is going on with this phone!

At this point use a file manager to copy your data to an SD card or plug it into a PC and install smart switch app to the PC and do a backup with the PC. Then do a full factory reset. You can restore your phone from the smart switch backup you made on your PC.

There may be bugs and issues created for the system update. For example when I was running the beta for Android 11 on my Galaxy S10+ when there was an update I had to wipe my device and restore several times. Because betas introduce bugs onto your device.

Of your phone is still overheating after a full reset and restore, you may need to reset and setup as a new device without restoring from backup. This way you have the cleanest version of Android 10 on your device.

If it still overheats after this it could be a hardware issue. At this point you would need to take it to a repair shop.

Okay wtf, how can a phone battery be draining while a phone is turned off?! I got off the phone just now with the guy who replaced my battery and he said he can diagnose the problem. Usually he's pretty good. He's a little hard to understand because he's foreign, but he mentioned something about the possibility of a virus or something wrong with the motherboard. Can a virus somehow drain your battery while your phone is actually turned off?!

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it's a virus. Unless you download files or apps from shady sites, or click on links in scam popup ads, it's very rare to get actual viruses on Android phones. I would suspect more of a problem with the replacement battery itself, or perhaps a problem with how it was replaced. I would normally suggest bringing it back to the person who replaced the battery, but since he's talking about viruses (which would be highly unlikely), I'm not sure how much I'd trust him.

I'm going to call him back in a minute.

I'm not sure if it was a language barrier but I'm not entirely certain he understood at first that I was trying to tell him that the phone was completely turned off. I think he was trying to talk to me and deal with another customer at the same time. I'm about to call him back and talk to him again. It sounded like he thought it was either a battery issue or a motherboard issue. I'm wondering if it could be a bad connection to the battery.... or maybe something went wrong with the battery replacement. I'm going to ask him if he's using Samsung parts or off-brand parts.

So what happened was my old battery was bulging out the back of my phone so I had it replaced. It was working fine but running just a tiny bit warm, but not bad. Then I accidentally started the update for Android 10, even though I've been canceling out of it since I first got the phone. I didn't want the update. I couldn't stop it once it started though, and once it finished installing, the phone started running really hot. Then all this started happening.

I just got off the phone with him and he thought it was really weird that my battery is draining while the phone is turned off, because it obviously shouldn't be doing that. He said all he can do is try another battery and see if that helps, and if not, try to problem solve the issue and see if a factory reset helps. Other than that, there's not much else he can do except contact Samsung. This is really weird.....

Im holding folded paper towels soaked in alcohol against the back of the phone to keep it cool so it can charge and back stuff up. And it's working! It's already up to nearly 40%.
