Note9 compatible with Note8 Gear VR?

The Note9 is .5mm shorter but 1.5mm wider than the Note8. Looking at a Note8 in a Note8 Gear VR, it looks like there's probably enough extra room for a Note9, although it's close. Does anyone know for sure?

I got mine working earlier today. Initially it wouldn't access the VR software when I snapped it in place and put the headset on. Tried it several times. I messed with some apps and tried to make sure everything was there that's needed. I tried it again and it worked. But I "think" what fixed it was actually making sure the phone was fully inserted into the connector before snapping it into the headset. So, yes it fits and it works, but the USB C adapter is a little snug.

...and yes, that is specifically the Gear VR for the Note 8. I had to buy it when I moved from the S7 Edge (edited-corrected which phone forced the change) to the Note 8.

I have the Gear VR S8+ edition and my Note 8 fit snugly in it. My N9 does not fit. I just ordered a Gear VR Note 8 edition from Ebay for cheap and I did see there's an adapter on the Samsung website but was not available to purchase. I've read that if you call customer service that they might send you a free one but I haven't seen any confirmation on that.

As long as it's got the USB C adapter in there, it can work. There's two positions where you can lock it in place. The phone won't fit if it's set at position B. It is snug, and if they'll give us a better fitting adapter, it will be worth getting. With the current USB C adapter, it has a tendency to "chime" like the VR app is opening, but when you put the headset on, you just see your home screen. It has to be pressed all the way into the connector and snapped into place without letting it come loose.

I think it would be okay, but might not hold up well if you used it a lot. I took a closer look at how the phone fits in the current adapter. There is a tiny gap at the front of the phone, so I don't think it would bother a screen protector. It looks like the issue with the adapter is the back side of it has a slightly different shape than the Note 9. The phone initially goes in fine, but as you press it in, the back of the phone begins to press against the adapter. It's useable, but it would be better if Samsung would actually provide a replacement adapter for the N9.

...Or if someone was brave, the adapter could be modified. It wouldn't take much. Perhaps a Dremel with a fine tip, or a Jewelers file? I'm not sure I'd risk it without a replacement on hand, and the proper tools.

Yes this might work, its tight because the note 9 is thicker 0.2mm, so just remove 0.1mm surface on each inside side of the adapter and will fit nicelly for sure.

WOW...got through in mere minutes (less than 2 for sure) and my exchange was nearly identical to yours. Waiting on my ticket number now. Thank you...I was really dreading having to reach out but so far it was painless (however I AM typing this as I await my ticket number....).

Looks like the new adapter for the Note9 is coming later this week for me. Did anyone get theirs yet? Also the package says it weighs 1 pound?
