I realize that this is not technically about the Note 9 however it is the one big question that is making me drag my feet about upgrading. After the great Note 7 debacle I ended up getting an iPhone 7. The one thing I love is having iTunes on my phone instead of a separate device and since I have a pretty big music collection with most of it purchased I'd like to keep using iTunes (without the iPhone).

So, will iTunes work on the Note 9 (or any Android phone) and if not, are there any good/reliable alternatives that will work with iTunes since I also use it on my home and work computers.

    Thanks!!

iTunes Radio Apple Music will (and I guess if you have music on iCloud to stream?), but not iTunes per-se. DoubleTwist has always been regarded as the iTunes for Android, so that would help. Smart Switch also keeps your music transferred and synced (as long as the files aren't encrypted with device-specific DRM...which IIRC, Apple stopped doing a while ago so that shouldn't be an issue).

Do you have to subscribe to Apple Music in order to listen to your iTunes music purchases through the Apple Music app?

    iTunes won’t work on Android

But you can download iSyncr and that will allow you to download playlists from iTunes onto your Note 9

I use Poweramp as my music player and this will show you the music in album and songs format too, so make up playlists in iTunes and download from there

Will DoubleTwist or Syncr access the music from iCloud (which I subscribe to - I don't use Apple Music)? I like that Syncr will download playlists from iTunes!

Not that I’m aware of. Don’t think any non Apple device can access the iCloud for stuff like this, could be wrong though

iSyncr works superbly; worth shelling out it’s snall price imo

Do you have access to a mac computer? If you do, there is a free tool called Music Manager that you can use to synch your music library that you have downloaded using iTunes into Google Play Music library. That then makes your music available in the play music app. If you don't have a mac, there might be a tool like that available for windows, but I haven't used it.

Why not use Apple Music? It can be downloaded from the play store.

I prefer to own my music rather than pay for streaming however that might be the way to go when I upgrade my phone. I realize I can still own my music but I haven't tried Apple Music to see how it all works together. I will probably do the free initial subscription to test it out.

Thanks for this; I'd never come across this until you mentioned it!

I might try running Google Music on my Note 9 when I receive it rather than Poweramp and see how I get on with it!

Here is a link with more info. I don't think it's in the apple store. I didn't get it from the app store originally, years ago.

Try the free trial and see what you think. By using Apple Music, you can play any song from your iTunes library in the Apple Music app (which is now so much better than it was originally on Android). You can play all your purchased songs, it will upload any songs you imported to iTunes and then you can stream any other songs available in Apple Music. In addition, you can see all of the playlists you created in iTunes and utilize in the Apple Music app. I have quite a few Smart Playlists, which utilize items like the genre, artist, playcount, ratings, last played, custom grouping, etc. And they automatically update as you play music - for example, if I have a playlist that plays songs that haven't been played in the last 90 days as the criteria and I play a song, it automatically drops out of that playlist and won't be added back unless it's been over 90 days since I last played it.

Glad Apple Music is finally on Android. There are pros/cons but I used Google Play for a while and it doesn't have anything to compare to the smart (auto-updating) playlists. You have to manually add/remove songs to playlists.

I buy all my music off iTunes and have been over the past 6 years. I've had an Android phone for the past 5 years and I only use iTunes for music. I use Smart Switch to transfer all my music from iTunes folder into my phone storage - I have smart switch installed on my macbook pro and it has been working great for me
