So I just got the Note 9 on saturday set it all up and its pretty amazing. One thing I can't figure out is when I clear the notifications in the status bar it wipes the notification off of the icon as well. Is there a way to fix this? I like having the notifications on the icon, only reason I clear the status bar is to stop the led from blinking

I would like to know as well, even though, I noticed that it started happening on my S8+ months before I upgraded to the Note 9.

I don't think there is a way to stop that. I forget where I saw in it the settings but it clearly says once you clear notifications from the status the badge notifications are gone too. I assume it's an Oreo thing. I always clear my status bar because I am OCD and hate to have things showing at the top.

I would just love to have any type of Facebook notification.

The only way around this is to use a different launcher like Nova along with their Tesla Unread addon.

I'm not liking this feature, either. I'll clear me email notifications if they aren't important, but I still want my unread badge to be there. Same with text. Hopefully can find a way to change this behavior.

Android Oreo changed the way notifications are handled. Previously, apps did their own thing to provide notification badges. The apps either had to support the badges for their icons, or launchers did that for apps like how Samsung used to do it, or third party ones like Nova via the unread plugin.
Because a lot of app developers don't support the badges yet people want them, Android devs reworked the notifications and added notification dots/badges tied to the notification panel. Due to these reworking, Samsung also had to alter how they handle notifications as well to use the system setup.
So the only way now to get the old methods is to use a different launcher that still provides that old badge service, like Nova Prime with Tesla Unread.

Nova Launcher>Nova Settings>Notifications>Did you set it to numeric badges? Did you already go through Tesla settings and enable all notification and usage access?

It's working for me even for Facebook notifications that I set to not show up on the notification shade.
