What limitations would I have if I bought an unlocked 512 Blue through Amazon and used it on Verizon?

I have an unlocked that I bought through Samsung and use on Verizon. In my opinion, you have more options, not less. One of the things I always hated with Verizon were the apps they loaded to get you to pay more money that were already features of android (caller ID and spam blocking is a biggie). I travel internationally and I hate that I get raped by Verizon while I am out of the country. Now, with my unlocked phone, I can use almost any carrier in the world and just swap out the sim card for a local one and save a lot!

Although, I have heard that getting android updates on an unlocked phone takes longer. Whatever. I am fine with that tradeoff, if true.

I'm all in for non carrier phones since I hate the crappy carrier stuff since **in my opinion** they have no business crapping up phones manufactured by someone else. Probably this topic is like beating a dead horse

But on your other point, all Verizon phones are sim unlocked by default as mandated by FCC due to use of particular spectrum or something like that. So if your use case is just for sim unlocked then even Verizon version will get that job done.

I am going unlocked for the first time for these and many reasons.......

However, I am a die hard fan of sleek black phones and am going to wait and hopefully not be disappointed, for a black note 9

Sammie confirmed through chat on their web site that they are rolling out a black note for the USA, but when is the question

The note 9 looks to be the best of the best for a long time Note fan like me

I have a 512 N9 unlocked on Verizon and have had for two days. Working great so far. I go out of the US soon, so will be a good test if the Travel Pass works for the unlocked N9. Verizon customer service said it will, but taking my S9+ as backup just in case.

Just make sure to go online and turn off the fancy visual voicemail. You have to go old school and call your own voicemail unlocked.

Actually, the default voicemail app on the Note 9 is visual voicemail!

?? It works on the unlocked N9? My N8 did not have that. Must be new.

It really depends on the carrier.

Negative. Verizon phones, by default, are now locked. They become unlocked once they're activated to a valid Verizon account. I verified this when ordering my Note 9s.

Well, it is an unlocked phone. I don't recall installing any app and just remember it being there. It's got a purple icon and I believe it is an android app since the icon did not change when I applied my current theme. Verizon's voicemail app icon on the Note 8 was red and white.

Which to me, as a Verizon customer, means the phone I purchase is unlocked. Nothing stops me from using it on another carrier or taking it over seas. This would only be an issue if you ordered phones from Verizon and have no intention of using Verizon.

Oh wow didn't know it changed. Not surprising since it probably irked the hell out of Verizon that it was unlocked out of the box. Thanks for the info. But still sim unlocked as soon as you activate, not that bad.

Like celawlor said above, the note 9 has visual voicemail and does work on the unlocked phone. Was able to view my voicemails with the app there was no need to dial. You do get 20 limit for voicemails with the option to dance automatically to phone when full if you save voicemails.

I also bought a unlocked 512gb note 9, and I'm using it on Verizon.

Yes like someone else mentioned you do get caller ID and spam blocking as a plus without hacking Verizon charge you.

The one thing if you use it or not but there are apps that could do this if you don't mind, it's that you do lose video calling.

The other is wifi calling as well. I'd these 2 are not something you mind or care when on Verizon then you will be better off unlocked.

The pros outweighed the negatives for me, but each their own.
