I just saw a video today (it was also posted today) that showed a guy filming inside a store portraying him putting an S Pen for a Note 8 into the S Pen slot for a Note 9. Take note it didn’t go in all the way cause it had a cap at the end, but it slid in to the slot of the Note 9. It went in, giving the impression that it fit in there.

    Here is the video:

It would be nice to have a color comparison between the blue Note 8 and the blue Note 9, since it's the only alternative to the yellow s-pen that doesn't clash with the phone's sides that I know of.

I did that personally when I went into a Best Buy. It fits and it works on the Note 9, pen windows and all

Why would anyone do that. This is why we have warning labels to protect us from ourselves doing dumb things. Remember the genius putting the sPen in upside down and then blaming Samsung for their stupidity?

I also did this with my Note 8 pen while I was looking at the Note 9 at T-Mobile. I didn't force it or do anything that would have broken it like the folks that put their pens in backwards with the original Note. It wasn't me being a difficult person, but I have 4 S-Pens of this size (2 from the Note 7 debacle, 1 from an insurance exchange on the Note 8, and the final one that I removed before I did my trade in) and I wanted to know if I had the needed back ups if one gets lost.

Really, people purposely remove s-pen when returning or trading in Note phones? SMH...

People just want to stick things where they don't belong.
So what if it fits. Would anyone use a powerless Note8 s-pen in place of their Note9 s-pen? NO.

Any S-Pen will work with any S-pen-capable device.

Note 7, 8, and 9 are the same size pens, so yeah, it will fit and lock. BT functionality from the Note 9 pen, however, will only work on the Note 9 (as will S-Pen charging). ANY S-Pen will work with ALL S-Pen-Capable devices, with differences in pressure sensitivity depending on the model (and like mentioned before, BT from Note 9 will only work on Note 9). Heck, any S-Pen also works with older Microsoft Surfaces.

Obviously, for devices that have an S-Pen holder port, only ones that are the same size would fit in there, but functionality would work regardless (just remember to either set the device to accept pen input at all times or remove the original one from the port so that input is enabled).
