Does the Note 9 have a side grip sensor? I.e. does it detects when you squeeze the sides.

If so, what apps uses it and is it programmable?

It has a grip sensor. You can test it when you enter *#0*# on the num pad. Here's a screenshot for reference.

I forgot the name of it but there is an app where you can program a function for when you squeeze the device. I tried it a while back and it was ok. Wasn't very accurate.

Thanks! Wow!, the Note 9 really does have it all. So much, that Samsung hasn't/doesn't utilize 100% of it.

Also looks like Samsung has had the grip feature for at least 4-5yrs now.

And I thought only Google's Pixel had that feature.

the grip sensor only detects that you are holding the phone as far as I know, if you could assign a function to it we would have known about a long time ago

I forget what Samsung calls it, but the phone will vibrate when you pick it up if you have notifications. Smart Alert maybe?

I'm just guessing that would rely on the grip sensor detecting you pick the phone up.

Maybe, maybe not. Using the methods described above the phone actually detects a squeeze.

There are other sensors that detect movement or motion.

Too bad Samsung never implemented the grip/squeeze functionality into the advanced settings for customization. Oh well maybe the Note 10 will have it.

Here's the app that I tried a while back. It's called Side Squeeze. Give it a try. Wasn't a huge fan of it back then but not sure if it has gotten better.
