I swear I was able to do this in the past, but may have been a completely different phone.
Basically I would like to make the notifications from a couple apps a priority so that they always go to the top of the list. Right now the phone chooses whatever it wants, and it's almost always something that can wait.
What's happening is that often when I'm working I'm up on a ladder or working inside some equipment so a quick check of a new notification would be nice. But since it only allows four items to be shown on the lock screen (not the AOD screen), if I want to see the notification I have to unlock the phone, drop down the shade, then scroll down to what I need. This can be cumbersome to do one handed on such a large phone so it's frustrating at times.
I'd settle for something as simple as "Sort by time received," but the arbitrary nature is no good. Was I imagining a prioritization feature, or is this another Android feature that got confusingly removed like contact specific ringtones?
