How do I prepare for my next moblie set-up?

My problem is simple. I love stock android and various rooting applications related to design and interface, but my favorite new phone on the market is the galaxy note edge. I want to have an experience similar to the nexus 5 but my carrier AT&T doesn't carry the phone meaning I would have to pay for an unlocked version which would be the same price or more as the note edge and I feel like I definitely get more for my money with the edge. I'm a huge fan of minimalist and elegant design with artistic details but if I get an edge will I be able to root it to the specs I want and still utilize the edge feature of the edge?
