Problem withg Calendar alerts

I have an issue with the stock Calendar app: It seems to be impossible to set an audible alert for Calendar entries without also activating audible alerts for everything else (emails received, messages, etc.). I can set the general notifications to silent, to inactivate all the annoying beeps from email, etc., but doing so also silences the Calendar alerts, even though those alerts have their own set volume. Any suggestions, please?? Note: I am still using Android 2.3.6, because of unresolved problems with Kies Air.
