Monoprice Micro USB to HDMI adapter. $15.92

I have purchased cables and adapters from Monoprice since 2006 when PS3 came out and just saw today that they are selling the same adapter similar to Samsung official and MHL's own Micro USB to HDMI adapter for 15.92 plus tax, S&H. I am 2 states away from their hq but with standard shipping, the last piece I ordered was on my doorstep 2 days later. Thought I would recommend and help save a few bucks.

So has anybody tried this piece out yet? I'm still waiting for AT&T to drop their S2 so I will order once I pick up my phone. Hopefully 10-02 is the end of the waiting. I'm jaded enough by now that I'm expecting a PR apology tomorrow from Samsung lol. It's been one rough summer.

I have one, but I always wonder why the MHL adaptor can not power from the microUSB hub. Why is it necessary to insert a power plug cable in b/t (the whole mess looks like a robotic spider) when plugged in.

Because the brand spanking new HDTV's are just barely being built with a power supply in itself and the Galaxy S2 is first to take advantage of that with MHL. All you'll need is 1 cord if you have one of these new television sets so the "robotic spider" isn't forever. Think about it like this. Only 1 port on phone for power and send/receive, if the phone was strong enough to power that HD signal to your TV, imagine the power drain it would cause. And then you would have to stop your videos to charge your phone for 30 minutes and resume the party :]

Thank you for the information. So this means that the power source lies at the HDTV end. It means that the TV has to support power via HDMI, pretty much like USB hubs do via a PC or external hub (each USB hub can sync and charge a device at the same time)

Any ideas of links to compatible MHL HDTVs?

Yep that's what it means. I don't have any links myself but if you see that the tv set is HDMI 1.4 and supports type-d then that's what is needed. I just called best buy to get more information on this and the guy didn't seem to be much help and apologized. He was the "theatre specialist" according to the customer service gal. He actually told me that he "thinks some Samsung tv's do it" but "there's no way to tell if it supports MHL". Lol. Really? I guess you just have to draw straws and hope you get one otherwise you have to just keep returning until...zing!! Hahaa

Thank you for the info. I will also start looking for thi type of connection at lime Sam's club that they alwaya have greag dealz on electronics.

Also i want to get rid of my current son's HDTV which only has one HDMI hub (connected to the Comcast box), so every time he wants to play angry birds on his HDTV using my GSII, I have to disconnect the comcast HDMI cable and connect it to my MHL cable into the robotic spider LOL.

Yea that will work to display the audio and video, however if you are wanting to charge the phone, you'll need that cable and the MHL capable HDTV. But yes, that cable will work now. Just not charge.

Thank you, now I understand bothe the TV and the phone have to support the MHL protocol in order to work and charge simultanous.

Definitely true that both the phone/device and HDTV have to support MHL in order to charge.

Unfortunately the only MHL enabled HDTV's in the market right now are the Toshiba's in AUSTRALIA of all places. BUT, I believe some of the new Sammy HDTV's will from a certain model will be able to support it once they receive an update. The Sammy one is a rumor so lets hope its true!
