Back up my phone.... Best?

Hi,
I am having some problems with my s2 ( random black lines on my screen ) .
Luckily with Samsung's 2 year warranty I can send back for repair.
I have been advised by Samsung to back up with kies to my pc but I don't know if all my apps and sms etc will be saved.
I see on various older posts that titanium is good for this but it seems that is for rooted phones and mine is bog standard.
Can anyone advise of best option to save as much info as possible .

Thanks I will give it a go.
Just looked and it says it needs root to back up apps. Will this be part of the process or do I have to do this separately?
