I am about to take a very long trip next weekend that will have me on the road for about 15 hours. I'm going to be using Google Maps through Android Auto. Which means the phone is going to have to be physically connected to use Android Auto if I'm not mistaken as I don't think you can use Android Auto and Google Maps through Bluetooth.

I know in the summer I sometimes take a trip that is about 3 1/2 hours long and by the time I get there, the phone is a little bit warm. Is there a chance that after 12+ hours of being connected up and basically charging the battery the whole time, that it could lead the phone to overheat?

The main thing to be cautious of is where you place the phone. If you use a car mount on the dashboard that places the phone in direct sunlight, that can contribute to overheating pretty quickly, especially now that it's getting warmer (in the Northern hemisphere, anyway). If you keep it lower, like on an A/C vent (which benefits from the A/C blowing on it if you have it on) or below the stereo, that's generally safer.

I just leave it in the passengers seat. I guess I could turn on the passenger's seat cooling function to help keep it cool and to protect the seat material if it did get warm.

    That is an option.

There a new device called Android Auto Wireless. You plug it in your car. Then connect your phone to the device. Probably can't get before your trip. But could use it on you next trip and not worry about your phone being plugged it for long periods. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/aawireless#/
