S10* night mode - what is it actually supposed to do

What exactly is night mode on the S10+ supposed to do? It would imply that at night, it would dim the display. That doesn't seem to be the case on my device. I have night mode turned on, but it seems to have no effect.

It helps save battery life.

Everywhere in the UI you see white (notification shade, navigation bar, Samsung stock apps) it will turn black. It will not dim the brightness of the screen (that's a separate setting) but dark colors are easier on your eyes at night, as opposed to the bright glare of white.

That bring said, I keep night mode on all the time. I like the black UI better.

I'm not seeing any black UI, but I suppose that the battery saver is working because I'm getting more use out of the S10+ than i did with the S8.
