Cannot set Waze as default on S10 Plus

I want to set Waze as my default navigation app on my S10 Plus. I know the process - go into Apps, Default Apps, Set Default, select Waze, click "set as default", voila. That is not an option for me, apparently. As the attached images show, there is no "set default" clickable option. The details are:
- S10+ on Verizon, fully up to date.
- Google Assistant opens Google Maps as default, even though Google Maps is not designated as the default (nothing is)

Help! Searched on this and most "solutions" just reiterate the normal, correct process which is not working for me.

I haven't seen any way to make it default.

this is wierd...or perhaps Google is biased...but Waze is owned by Google so this is just plain wierd -_-

I didn't know Waze is owned by Google , but it is weird cant set it as default

Google bought Waze few years back...the workaround is hilarious like other users saying that OK GOOGLE.open W.A.Z.E and take me home...like literally spelling WAZEEEE out...

but for me Google Maps is better in Indonesia as a lot of Waze users in Indonesia give fake reports...

BUT waze is more detailed...like in 30 meters turn left.Google Map goes like in 100m turn left...well plus and minus i guess.

i cant say much about accuracy but just more detailed.saying in 30m or in 10m turn left is better than saying in 100m turn left if you compare it to Google Maps.and not to forget in Jakarta,Indonesia.Waze 8 out of 10 times gave me roads which arent actually for cars(yes a car might fit but always close calls).

call me biased but im also a Google Maps Local Guide and yeah Google has been giving me redeem coupons for things i contributed such as photos and review... xD but seriously im not biased.

No all I said was that I don't have to spell it out. I just ask Google Assistant to open Waze app. Then I have to ask Waze to navigate wherever.
