Samsung's fingerprint app updated this morning on my S10+. Instructions said to restart phone after update. Now it won't take my PIN. I even put in a wrong pin more than 10 times and never got the "forgot PIN?" to unlock phone via an alternative method. How do I avoid reset? Thanks to Samsung for screwing this up.

It's probably a good idea to contact Samsung. The roll out is just starting and I haven't seen any posts about this issue. THis happened with another Samsung device last year and Samsung pulled the update

Do you have a screen protector on the screen? The update may have made the FPS less sensitive, so the fingerprint can't be read through the protector.

The OP is talking about the PIN, not the fingerprint reader.

"The update details instruct users to remove registered fingerprints after the update and register them again without using a screen cover. "

    XDA news

Nothing showing an issue with pin being recognized

I have the notice now. I'm going to wait until I see some users update without any PIN issues. I'm still using the stock screen protector and I'm not interested in removing it.

I received the FP update yesterday and Android 10 Beta today. All works fine. I usually use Fingerprint lock for security. I also have the stock screen protector. An option is to consider turning off all security before accepting the update if you are concerned that you may be locked out. Sorry that it doesn't help the OP

I’m pretty sure that after a restart the PIN is required and this is where the OP is stuck

With fingerprints you have to enter a password periodically and on reboot.

Stock screen protector. Pin (8). Face + fingerprint registered.

Applied update today. Was so small wasn't sure it happened but says updated.

Before I did update I changed biometric preference from fingerprints to facial recognition. Restarted.

Yes you could have removed all biometrics but no one would anticipate a pin being a problem.

Same. I applied update without issue, and the instructions are unclear about the need to remove the factory screen protector and re-register prints.

I've always been set for Password on restart, not PIN, and it behaved as always.

Update worked perfectly here. Didn't bother registering my prints either - no point, don't use a screen protector.

Still can't understand how people can manage to lock themselves out of their phones? If you use a fingerprint, you need a PIN or Password. If you have a PIN or Password, you have to unlock on reboot. If you have to unlock on reboot, you need to enter your passcode. Every. Single. Time.

    It.Failed.

Things having, not always not yes/no, black/white.

For most it goes as it should.

What if the screen fails to correctly read what it tapped on the screen and letters or numbers stop being recognized properly?

If I had to guess, I would say the most likely scenario here is the person affected simply forgot their PIN. It happens.

I did the patch and no pin issues. I have on a Zagg hybrid screen protector and since the update it seems faster and more accurate. I did not re-register my prints.

Now I have a system update ready to be dl/installed. I wonder if it makes a difference on which update is applied first....

Update: So I removed my fingerprints in preparation for the system update and fps update. It removed the update for the fps... obviously. Installed the system update, re-registered my fingerprints and now waiting to see if the fps update comes back.
