Samsung Galaxy S2 randomly shuts off

My Samsung Galaxy S2 will shut down at random times. It happens at various battery levels, it happens when it is just sitting on a desk (i.e., not being moved around.) It doesn't seem to happen when connected to the charger. I've put in a new battery, and it doesn't make any difference. Plus the battery life is very short...most days I can't get 8 hours on standby, and less if I try to use it.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S2 randomly shuts off

Welcome to Android Central! Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

It might also be a faulty Power switch, which would require a trip to the repair shop.
