I don't own a Galaxy phone but I am looking at them. I searched and some hits came up from August, didn't quite find an answer.

Can you use "Hey Google" on this phone right now? Is it as easy as on a Pixel? Can you call up the Google Assistant other ways? I have used Pixels for years but I'm getting curious about Samsung phones.

To be honest, I don't know how you call up Bixby on this phone other than your voice so maybe that's the only way?

Galaxy novice here. Be gentle. Thanks!

Other than using a button (at least not without 3rd party workarounds), you can access and use Assistant pretty much the same ways you can on a Pixel (and Bixby can be completely disabled, even for the button access). The only thing Assistant won't be able to do is settings changes (not sure you can on a Pixel phone, but on non-Pixels this requires root) and deep-app integration (that the Assistant doesn't already have anyway).

I completely forgot the Galaxy phone has a button. I don't use settings changes much. Thanks, this is exactly the info I wanted to know.

Google Asssitant and Hey Google work fine on my Note 8/Note 9 but I prefer Bixby, it works much better for me.

If you're happy with Google keep using it, should be just as good of an experience as on a Pixel.

I am. It's the S20 FE and watch that got me interested in a change. I think I was pushed by the fact that the watch (Active 2 and GW3) got features exclusive to Galaxy phone users. Not critical features in my book but it sparked my curiosity in Galaxy (and annoyance with Samsung at the same time). I probably won't make the jump unless there is some crazy sale on the S20 - I mean crazy.

I see a lot of people that don't like Bixby. This is how I differentiate between Bixby and Google assistant.

Use Bixby for phone stuff, i.e. settings, alarms, sending texts, opening apps, etc.

Use the Google Assistant for stuff out of the phone, i.e. looking up websites asking questions, etc.

This is helpful. Thank you. My only modern Samsung device was the S7 Edge, so my incoming S20 FE will be my first experience with Bixby. I think I'll still disable it, but you've given me food for thought.

The S7 was my first device with Android. Upgraded to the S10+ when it came out. Why disable it before you ever use it? Don't you think you should give it a fair try?
