Hey everyone! I just upgraded my phone from the S7 to the S21 base model (128GB). My S7 battery was really dying quickly so I didn't have much choice. I've never been one to need much from my phone (few pics stored, few apps, etc.) but it's very important for me to make sure this battery doesn't drain like my S7 did. I know it was also just due to age though.

I'm not very tech savvy but can anyone help me with simple ideas on how to improve the battery going forward? There are already a ton of pre-installed apps on here but I don't know which ones I can get rid of (I know some you can only disable rather than uninstall too). I've heard there is stuff called like bloatware on here to remove but I have no idea how to do that...if the process is complicated I prefer maybe not to. Any tips on improving battery life (via uninstalling things or changing stuff in settings) would be appreciated. Other tips in general about just using this phone would be great too

Hi, congrats on the upgrade, can you show screenshot of those apps? Yes some can be disabled or uninstall. Are you on carrier version or unlocked? And which carrier?

Your S7 is a 5yr old phone. I think you got your money's worth and battery life out of it. Just use it. It's a phone.

That S7 had a good run. You can turn the refresh rate down to 60 from 120 for better batter life but that's one of the things you just payed for. I personally wouldn't. I've had mine for 4ish months and battery's been good.
If your interested in how batterys work mrwhosetheboss has a you tube video about it

Give your phone a chance to known your usage patterns. It will put the apps you use the least or not at all to sleep so they won't use battery in the background.

That's so awesome about your upgrade! Congratulations and have fun with your new Samsung S21!

Here are a few things to do to improve your battery life:

    - lower your screen brightness

    - turn your phone to Silent when at work or not in use. Vibration sounds will drain more battery

    - enable Do Not Disturb at bedtime to silence all incoming notifications. You can still have texts or calls from priority contacts come through, however

    - try not to let your battery drain past 20% or have your phone charge to 100% too often. I just learned about this trick from another user - though there are so many different theories out there about percentage and charging

    - having your phone set to Dark Mode/a darker wallpaper will also help improve battery life

    - if you don't use Always On Display, turning that off will improve battery life

    - turn your screen timeout to fifteen seconds or less to preserve the battery

Thanks for everyone's replies, aside from 11B1P's comment which was a bit rude. Mustang7757, I bought the phone through AT&T and uploaded the pictures you asked about. I've already turned the motion smoothness down from adaptive to standard just in case, but should I leave it on adaptive to get the full experience and if it doesn't hurt the battery really? Morty2264, thanks for your tips. My screen brightness is set to adaptive brightness, I need to look into the do not disturb method because I don't have that set. Can you explain more on the battery? Are you saying don't let it drop past 20% and then charge to what if you aren't supposed to do 100%? I'm not using any type of dark mode but I do have a dark background. Do I need to have dark mode set for all the time or just at night or something? I have light set all the time. I already have always on display turned off and I just turned screen timeout down from 1 minute to 30 seconds. I also turned screen mode to natural instead of vivid if that helps battery? I have the black 25W USB-C wall charger. When it charges, it says super fast charging on my screen. When I go into more battery settings, fast charging is toggled off and and super fast charging and fast wireless charging are toggled on. I've never touched those settings and I don't do wireless charging if it helps. I already turned off edge panels too.

Last night I went to bed with my phone at 90% and when I woke up eight hours later, it was at 62%. Seems like a big drop for a brand new phone and due to the fact I wasn't using it during that time right? The first night or two that I had the phone it didn't seem to drop but a few percentages over night. I wasn't using an alarm those nights but last night I did, but that shouldn't have made a difference.

Hi, thanks for posting the picture , most of that Att stuff if don't use uninstall or disable , Att is one of those carrier that come with lots of bloat , give it a week to settle in your usage pattern. I don't think 11b1p was trying to be rude .
