A few days ago my wife (s20 fe) and I started having issues. We can hear the people we're speaking with but we are very choppy to them. Eventually had to download the Google phone app. Anyone else have issues with this?

It's tmobile. Other phones work well. We tried 3rd party apps, still the same issue. Also, part of the issue is, even in a strong 5g network (Dallas, Tx) it keeps radomly switching from 5g to lte constantly.
Have you tried with just LTE instead 5G on ? Under network connection.
What about my question about wi-fi calling?
Does the problem go away if you use the Google Phone app?
Also B. Diddy brought up a good point if these are calls over WiFi calling, another question are you using any Bluetooth or headphones during calls?
Since it happens in safe mode and went over few others I think should try factory reset next.No headphone or Bluetooth
