    it does this particuarly when I am listening to my voice mail messages. But also sometimes when I am on the phone. I try pressing the different buttons eventually it come back on.

    Welcome to Android Central! Does it only happen when you're using the phone function? If so, then the proximity sensor is probably getting tripped inappropriately. This can happen if your finger is hovering above it (it's usually right next to the front-facing camera), or if it's obscured by something like a dirty screen protector or a poorly fitting case.
