Hey guys,

I'm on a rooted S3 and according to my battery chart, my screen uses up 50% of my battery usage. Is there anything I can do besides using the phone less?

Currently using Baked blackbean Mod 7 ROM if it makes a difference. Ive always had this issue, even when I was stock. Maybe I like the phone too much!

Thanks!

Stop looking at it.

Set your timeout to as short as you can handle.

Turn your brightness down as low as you can and still see what you need.

These. The screen is usually always the #1 cause for battery drain

No it's totally normal. Everything else just consumes minimal battery in comparison to the screen. I'd only be worried if something is coming close to using as much power as the screen because nothing else should be. It doesn't mean your battery won't last as long though.

The screen is supposed to be the #1 user of battery power, it's the only thing that's constantly on when you're using your phone. Nothing is wrong with your phone.

It's normal.

Just get an external charger and sparr battery from eBay so you can charge one while you use another battery. They make them for all of the best phones on the market.

Oh also you're going to see people on here claiming to get 2 days worth of battery - understand that these people BARELY Use the phone.
. There isn't a phone out that can last 2 days unless you barely use it

I'd have to agree.. When I use my phone (including its data) it can drain. Wifi helps but.. Not too much. I can usually get my days worth though. I use it mostly at work (streaming music and browsing forums / news) and as you can see I am at half. I can last on this until I go home and then to bed tonight.

That's true to some extent. I've noticed that my partner's iphone 5 lasts twice as long on standby on a single charge, my S3 can make it 2 days with minimal usage, his can get up to 4 days. By minimal usage I don't mean pure idle. On moderate-heavy usage they're about on par.

there is an app called privacy filter in the market it will let you turn down the brightness even lower.

Also just incase you were not aware (because some people are not)
the percentages are not reflecting the usage of the battery rather the percentage of what has been used.
So if you have 70% left on your battery then you have used 30%. So when the screen displays 50% usage it is basing that number off the 30% that was used, so 50% of 30% is 15%.

Not bad if that's you moderate to heavy usage. Last night before charging i snapped a photo of mine.. I was on 3g most of the day so if I had wifi for longer periods of time the battery would have easily lasted longer. (I'm on wifi in the photo due to getting home) :)

Just knowing that percentage really doesn't tell anything in relation to battery life. You need to look at time that the screen is on.

Also remember that everything using the battery has to add up to 100 somehow.

Nah that was actually about moderate to light usage. I leave my brightness on 100% (automatic) and during heavy usage like non-stop watching movies and gaming I'd only get upto 8 hours with the screen using up over 70% of battery power. But still very impressive. One time during a long ass drive I put on a full movie in the car, no car charger, just a full length 2.5 hour movie playing non stop and I only lost roughly 20% battery from a full charge. Was also using GPS on the way to and from the destination, that's when I knew I picked the right phone.

it's not a percentage of battery, it's a percentage of battery usage relative to everything else. big difference and no cause for concerns.
