Hi - my friend just got an S3 Mini, her first smartphone. However, her battery is draining like crazy even when she's not using it. I'm really hoping someone here might be able to help us diagnose the problem.

She has reduce the screen brightness to minimum and the screen auto-locks after 15 seconds. She left it overnight and it drained from 51% to 26%, so it seems like it's trying to do something all the time.

I don't know much about Android, but we took some images of the running processes and the battery setting screen. She says that when she tries to turn off one of the running apps, it gives a scary messages to the effect that it may cause damage to do so.

We'd be really grateful if you could take a look at the attached images and advise us on what we could try to get the battery to stop draining so fast. Thank you for your help!

She can try an app called Juice Defender and see if that helps with the battery life. Also, a screenshot on the GS3 Mini should be able to be taken when the home button and the power button are pressed at the same time

She should check the settings on each app. The default settings on social media and news apps, for example, often allow the apps to refresh continually. When apps are refreshing in the background, they are draining your battery even if you're not using your phone.

I'm not sure I see a problem. She's gotten 16 hours with 25% of battery life left, and most of the battery usage is from screen on time. What kind of battery life do you expect?

But yes, to narrow it down you need to load a battery monitor app like Juice Defender of GSMA, or a cpu monitor like System Panel. My personal preference is System Panel. It will let you see exactly what processes are using CPU, which will identify if there's some runaway process causing problems.
