I am wondering if there is a way to set up the phone to only ask for a password/unlock pattern on boot? I use Widgetlocker, and I have that set up to where I feel safe enough to not have a lockscreen after I open Widgetlocker.. But, Widgetlocker takes a few moments to turn on after booting up.. Any ideas/help?

I think Tasker can set up situations where if you are at home, you don't have to put in your password. I may be wrong on that part though.

Okay, I may feel slightly dumb.. I just realized that there is an option to encrypt the device and require a password everytime the phone is booted, which is exactly what I'm looking for! Questions are raised, though.. Would I be able to remotely recover information? Are there other pros/cons to the encryption?

I am going to be honest, I am not sure if remote access will be permitted upon encryption. Downside to it, as I understand, you would need to decrypt if you need to factory reset. I think for the most part you would be much safer if you kept personal info off the phone.

If you encrypt you also have to decide if you're going to encrypt the SD card (a separate selection). Just FYI - I encrypted my 64GB SanDisk card and within a day it was unusable and couldn't be recovered.

    Pros:
    - if lost, no one can look at anything on the system

    Cons:
    - overhead in all I/O operations

I'm not sure what happens if you try to reload the firmware over an encrypted device.

Alright, I guess I'll keep looking.. I wonder why this isn't an option out of the box with Android?
