Gt-19300 4.3 Unrooted

Hi,

my phone came with Gmail built in and when I tried a different email app I removed the gmail icon from the lockscreen.

I want to use the built in program again and it shows in application manager and is working.

But how do I put the icon back on the lock screen?

My lock screen settings don't include a "shortcuts" option and the program doesn't appear in + apps

What's on the screen shot is what I've got.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Michael

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure what you mean.

I simply what to put an icon on the lock screen that will open my gmail app.

I have "swipe" enabled but how will that help me put the icon on the lockscreen?

As you can see when the screen lock is set to "swipe" you will have the shortcuts option, but when you use any other lock you won't have that option. Hope it helps

Thanks Emad,

Thanks to your image I got it sorted out.

The way it's been implemented isn't exactly obvious, and since I installed the new firmware my whole layout has been changed.

Anyway the image will probably make it clearer as to how far I've got, and the present problem.

In the image that you included in post #6, the Gmail icon is already on the Lock screen, between the Camera icon and the + icon.

Thanks GSDer

It appears on the shortcut's menu but not on my lockscreen :-(

And if I go to + add more apps and widgets, it doesn't appear there either.

Do you have any shortcuts showing on your Swipe lock screen? Can you use another phone or camera to take a picture of your lock screen and post it here.

Weird. Do the other shortcuts that are shown (phone, camera) show up on the lockscreen?

Have you tried removing Gmail, which should cause it to be shown in the list on the right, and then re-adding it?

Edit: I just looked again at the latest screenshot of your Apps Drawer - Gmail isn't shown there, eh? Are you sure you don't have it hidden? Or that your view isn't alphabetical?

You may need to uninstall/reinstall Gmail to sort it out.

No, it's not hidden.

And I can't uninstall gmail but only update it because it was factory installed.

The view is alphabetical ..

thanks,

Michael

Right - my bad.
You can, however, uninstall the updates to Gmail (after clearing cache and data would be my recommendation) and then update it again from the Google Play Store. That might help.

BTW, do those other icons (Phone, Camera, etc) show up on your lockscreen?

OK I carried out your suggestion and when I went to Google playstore it said already installed but it did let me install it.

I restarted the phone.

Now the gmail icon shows on the lockscreen until I swipe it to open it, and then it disappears.

I thought the other email program that I installed might be causing some kind of conflict so I decided to uninstall it but I can't; or I don't know how.

Thanks for the help,

Michael

P.S. I was just able to add the gmail shortcut to the multi-screen ...

Well it's better to have it on the multi-screen than not at all, but I still can't get it on the lockscreen.

So if anybody has any more ideas on this then please let me know.

Before I swipe the gmail icon displays on the bottom of the lock screen but disappears afterwards.

Thanks for all the help in getting me this far,

Michael
