When I try to connect a device to my portable hotspot on my Samsung s3 the device says that there is a authentication problem what's wrong with it?

your carrier has most likely blocked it because it is a paid optional feature.

I have data on my phone your portable hotspot just uses your data I used it on my ace 2 but it won't work on the s3

Most carriers charge extra for mobile hotspot. It's generally not included in the standard data plan.

But if that's not it, is the hotspot on your phone set up to require a password? If you gave us the exact error message, it might help us diagnose the problem.

Depends on the carrier and plan. But I know that Verizon , att, and tmobile have plans that include hotspot at no additional charge.
