Home button turns on screen--has it always done that?

I noticed today that when I pull my S3 out of my pocket, the screen is on. Normally, I have to press the power button to do that. I messed around with it a little and determined that pressing the Home button does the same thing as the power button.

Has it always done that? Or is that something from KitKat, which I got this morning?

Is there a way to disable it?

Thanks!

That's completely normal, and has been around for a long time. Even the iPhones home button turns on the screen. I don't think it can be disabled.

Welcome to the forums!

Get one of those flip covers if it bothers you enough - they don't add much thickness to the phone (since it replaces the back) and will prevent accidental activation of the Home button.
