I've got a Galaxy S3 which won't go past the Start-up Logo

I've tried to do a system wipe, boot into recovery mode and do a soft rest without success. I'm guessing that all of the data (Phone numbers, Email addresses) that I need to do a factory reset, however, I had backed up the data but it doesn't seem to be thare anymore. Is there any practical way I can recover it?

Welcome to Android Central! Were your contacts associated with your Google account or the Phone account? If they were with the Google account, then you should be fine, because all of that information syncs automatically to your Google Contacts in the cloud--check there to see if the information is intact. If they were with the Phone account, then they might have gone down with the ship. Phone account data doesn't sync automatically anywhere, nor is it included in the "Backup Data to Google" feature. The Phone account relies on the user doing regular backups or syncs using 3rd party programs like Kies.
