touch screen not responsive before and after resets

Hello all, my ageing S3 started becoming problematic last week with respect to the touchscreen. the screen is new and has been working fine for the last couple months, a shop repair from a drop.

I have plugged another screen in with similar results. touch and swipe non responsive. indicating the new screen is ok and not the problem.

I have backed what was needed via laptop and factory reset a few times. also cleared the cashe out a couple times. both processes were repeated due to bootlooping/freezing at the pulsing "samsung" screen and some error with the operations. was eventually able to get clean resets and the phone to boot up to the "welcome" screen where you select your language and tap "start". the screen is still not responding to touch, however the two touch buttons next to the home button respond to touch (lit screen, audio and vibrating response).

i've subsequently run the resets again with similar results.

your thoughts and opinions are much appreciated. thank you!
