My phone won't download my emails after getting new firmware last december

A

AC Question

Not only that but my phone often 'tells me' that my email has stopped, even though my email is not open.

No probs prior to the firmware download

Any suggestions please - I would be most grateful ?

Welcome to Android Central! Go to the App Manager, select Email, and Clear Cache, then Force Stop. If this doesn't help, then try Clear Data as well. You may have to add your email account information back to the Email app after this.

Thanks BD
Followed the steps right through including Force Stop. Made no difference.

Tried to open my email account again.....got a white empty screen for about 5 secs, then got the message that unfortunately my email has stopped or words to that effect.

What happens if I clear data ? Will I lose anything ? I'm a novice so don't know what the repercussions are - sorry

I believe clearing data would be the same as removing the email account and adding it back again (which is also worth trying). As long as there aren't any emails that you downloaded to the phone and were subsequently deleted from the server (which can happen if you're using a POP3 server from your email provider), you should be ok.
