I got promoted for the OTA update. Is it safe to update our do I have to revert back to factory first. If it matters Att is the carrier.

Well, I guess if you are getting an OTA update then I proceeding with it will the best option as this will bring you are number of bug fixes updates, features etc. One more thing I don't think you will be able to update your device as you said you are rooted user but I would say try giving it a shot if the updates then it would be the best thing and one more thing if it updates you will not remain rooted i.e you will get unrooted.

I figured I would loose root if it did upgrade. But you were right the OTA update was not able to complete.
