S4 mini SD card / mail

Hi,

last week I've installed the KitKat update. Directly after the update, the phone mentioned that the SD card was blank. Strange since they ware loads of movies & photos on it. However, I can't get it back. It seems the update messed up the card.

Another issue is that the mail is syncing continuously which takes up network usage & frustrates me endlessly since I got a warning every minute. The setting is "Manually".

Any advice on these issues?
