Samsung S4 mini - problems formatting Samsung EVO 64GB microSD

Trying to format new microSD by clicking through Settings > More > Storage.

From online demos that I've watched, I think I should now get the options to format the external card, but the only available action is 'Mount SD card' which, when I press it, briefly says 'preparing SD card' but then says 'SD card safe to remove'.

Any help much appreciated. In case it's relevant, the handset is rooted and I prefer doing data transfers from PC via Mass Storage Mode (I have a reliable app for doing this and have never had any problems with micro cards before).

FIXED - found an old handset (Samsung Galaxy Wonder, GT-I 8150) and tried to format the card in that - worked right away. Re-formatted the card once I'd put it back into the S4-mini just to be on the safe side.
