Maybe this question has been asked a hundred times over but I'm a new Android device user. And glad to part of the crowd. So, I have the S4 Mini running KitKat 4.4.2 on the ATT network. When I'm home the device gets it IP address from the router. When I look at the DHCP IP router table to see what address the device was given. I notice that the client hostname is "android.##########'. I have already done the step to change the name of the device through "Settings->More->About Device->Device Name". However that change did nothing to the actual hostname as seen from the router side. I only see the updated device name when I connect my device to a PC with the USB cable. Is there an app or an uncomplicated method to give the device a proper hostname?

It depends on the router, since that's where the name to be displayed is being generated. My Netgear N300, as an example, shows my phone as the name in the phone and nothing else, when I look at connected devices. It doesn't show a hostname.
