Why won'y my Samsung S4 mini turn on?

Samsung S4 mini won't turn on

Initially my phone would turn off after being on for short periods of time but would then turn on again. As this went on a lot of the time when I turned the phone back on it wouldn't get further than the Samsung logo. It then stopped turning on completely. If I take the battery out and put it back in it will sometimes vibrate as if turning on but the screen stays black. If I plug it into the computer the computer makes the connection sound continuously but the phone stays off.
