Possible to enable lock screen apps with password enabled lock screen via root?

It seems that you have to choose from either having a password protected lock screen or having no protection but having access to lock screen apps. My GS4 is rooted. Is there any easy way to have both? I presume switching to another rom would solve the problem but I want to stick with the stock rom for now( would be willing to try out a custom kernel though). I'm hoping for some kind of app which uses root access to give me lock screen apps and password protection.

Yes, bump! I loved being able to swipe the icons on the lock screen, put in my PIN and then have the apps launch on my S3. It feels like a giant leap backwards. I can't even get any other widgets on the lock screen besides the clock and text messages when the come in...
