problem with stock music app

I'm trying to automate Google Play Music starting and playing when I plug in a headset. I've tried Tasker and a variety of apps that are specific to controlling the headphones. I have the same problem with all of them. They seem to default to playing the stock Samsung Music app (and the one song that's included with the phone). I installed Default App Manager and set both Music and Streaming to use Google Play Music.

Anyone having this same issue? Been able to solve it?
