Text Message Preview: How Do I Enable

Ok, this may be something pretty straight forward that Im over looking, but how do I enable text message previews. As of now, when I receive a new text message the the phone states "New Message". It doesnt show who it is from, or what it's about until it is opened. Any way to enable a preview, or at the least see the sender without having to open the text. Using a Galaxy S4, Switched from iphone.

Open the messaging app, hit the menu button, tap settings, scroll to the bottom and check the box that says preview message.

didn't work. Tried unchecking it and rechecking it still does not appear on locked screen :-(

Go to google play and look at sms popup. It's free and it will popup over your lockscreen and does custom notifications for varous contacts
