Hi all,

This might be supposition, but it appears any tethering app that does not require rooting brings up Verizon's Mobile Hotspot in the background. Not sure I like that... seems like we're forced to use that app (even if its in the background.)

I have this sneaking suspicion that one that requires rooting might not start Mobile Hotspot - but I have yet to find a 'root required' tethering app that works for the S4.

Anyone on Verizon and tethering without Mobile Hotspot popping up?

Doesn't seem to effect anything that I've seen. By turning it on with the app, it seems to work just fine. With no warning, however, turning on the tether from the built in function of the OS, it checks for the subscription. Whatever this app does, seems to bypass that. I don't believe Verizon has any real way to see if you're tethering or not, other than just seeing that you may use much more data than others. (Key point however is they don't have a way to prove it)

Used this to test and it seems to work.

Thanks for the info, don't have the phone yet but that is the app I already use on my GN.

Thanks for that. I got FoxFi (https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...tore/apps/details?id=com.foxfi&token=KCR81CDf) working too - but again, I get that big brother feeling when the native Hotspot app comes on automatically.

Thought I was really smart and going to freeze the native Hotspot app, using Titanium Backup - but its not listed there :(
