Selecting Gallery Image for Icon Doesn't Work

Any tips here? I'm trying to set icons in my gallery as my icon (icon pack downloaded to gallery) but they won't stick. When I click to select the image and click okay, the screen closes and the icon is still the same as it was before. Anyone experienced this before?

More details - I'm running Nova Launcher. I can change the icon image if it's an installed icon theme pack or whatever, but if it's one of the packs you download as a folder of images, it won't work. I've tried going through ASTRO file manager and through the regular gallery, as well as pulling from Dropbox, and it takes me to the 'crop' screen - i click okay, that screen goes away, and it takes me back to the edit menu for the selected icon, where it still has the same default image as before.
