https://www.dropbox.com/s/4bv2678m95...%2011%20AM.mov - Here's a video of my girlfriend's Samsung S4 phone. She's afraid I might've cracked it by accident, and the sign she feels that it's cracked is cause of the grey bar that appears right of the password bar. My question is, is this a cracked screen, a glitch in the screen rendering and is it serious? So far it only shows up on the lock screen.

Can't you just feel for a crack?

Visualbly and feeling wise, there's no crack. But she's afraid it's cracked cause I made a lot of cracking or creaking noise getting up from a couch. Since then she's become really concerned and needs assurance.

I can't view the video. Hopefully the phone is still functional. It probably is a small crack if you can change screen's and its there when on and off.

It's functional, it just bothers her to suddenly notice a grey line appears when the keyboard is brought up to input the password. Anyway, I'll take a screenshot in a sec.

So only when the keyboard is up? If its only appearing when its up its probably not a crack as that would be visible on every screen. Least its functional.

It appears for only half a second before it dissappears. I told her what you said that if it's consistent across multiple screens, it's a crack, but she's still very concerned cause she only just noticed it now. As far as my guess is, it's just for some reason slow to render that part.

The link says its invalid. I'm not a phone wiz but I would guess if its not consistent you would be right to say its on the software side. Don't worry my girlfriend gets super paranoid stuff too. Maybe a soft reset could fix it as it would be something to do with software. Hopefully another s4 owner pops in the thread.

Just to put it to rest, what will I say to her to explain what it is? Also she's a little reassured cause a facebook group told her that isn't an issue.

I would back up my apps first. If it was my girlfriend, I would probably say it looks like its a software issue as there isn't a visible crack and only on the keyboard. So your wanting to see if resetting it will fix it, however there is no guarantees.

Well, it only happens on the login screen and only when when the keyboard renders on that screen. We tried a hard shut off, turn on and still there.

Maybe just commit to the reset. If that doesn't work hopefully its livable with or see if you can convince the staff where you bought it so swap it.

Are you talking about the large grey bar or the small one that disappears quickly after it turns on? If it's the one that goes on and quickly fades away, it's definitely not a crack. It might actually be the widget or something. I had the same exact thing that appeared on the side with my dashclock widget. i never noticed it until I installed dashclock on my girlfriends GS4. She has a brighter wallpaper than I do so I was able to catch it and when I went to see if I had it on my phone, it had the same thing. The funny thing is, it stopped doing that on my phone yesterday but still does it on my gfs phone.

Edit: oh the grey bar is the password bar lol. Try changing the screen lock to pattern and see if you still notice the bar. Like I said before, I had that same grey bar appear and fade away on my dashclock widget. Specifically on the weather extension.

The small one, the one that lines up the password bar with the keyboard vertically. And she might need an explanation on widgets since I'm new to the Android OS.

I'm not sure how to explain because I'm new to android as well. The GS4 is actually my first smart phone and I've hadnit for a month. Anyway try changing the screen lock to pattern or something and see if the bar is still there.

We tried that actually, it doesn't show up on pattern, but she's very intent on finding out why it does it on the password screen, she went back to password and it's back again.

Okay well at least you know it's not a crack lol. My best guess is that it's just a glitch with the password lock. This might sound crazy but try changing the lock screen wallpaper.

And nope, still has it. She does however have a lot of widgets. And she's too afraid to remove them cause she's afraid she'll forget which ones she had.
