    The "Turn GPS off" thing is a myth, now, really... GPS doesn't draw battery unless it's being used, and unless you have Maps running on the foreground or an always-on app like Navigation or other location-aware programs running, GPS will not look for a signal even though it's ON. YES, there is a battery consumption if it's not entirely switched off, but at this point is negligible.

    Now, if you're worried about the 'Maps' process that shows up as your (usually) number two battery-eater after Display, then it's probably Google Now that's causing it. It constantly polls for your location to deliver its voodoo prediction magic, but at the cost of higher battery consumption. For me, disabling Google Now nearly doubled my battery life.
