I just upgrade to the s4 on sprint from the s3 and I live in Pittsburgh which is evdo/ehrpd on lte phones. My problem is that when I make or recieve a phone call the s4 disconnects from the data like it's in a 1x area. Lte isn't barely anywhere here yet. But it stays when in lte from the few spots I have seen.

My question is how do I get the data to stay on during the a call. My s3 kept the data on during calls in evdo only area ehrpd and lte areas too. This is a deal breaker for me.

As gabbot said only Lte/voice, and wifi/voice is possible but 3G/voice isn't. S3 had an extra channel(extra hardware basically) that allowed data and voice on 3G. On the s4 that isn't present.

No software way of doing anything about that? Besides making calls using a voip program?

No it's a hardware limitation with the installed radios
