Hmmm...that's a tricky question. Is the personal number a mobile number or land line? If it's mobile do you have another phone that you're under a contract for?
Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in, but my initial thought (without more information) is to set up Google Voice. You could either migrate the personal number to it, or forward calls to it. Then Google Voice on your phone will get calls and send texts through it (I think you need to use the Google Voice app to text though unless they've changed things).
There might be other options, but that's what initially pops into my head. I think that will work.
