UICC Unlock? ._.

Under "System Updates" there is the usual(Profile, Prl, software, and firmware update buttons) but I've never seen the last option, which is UICC Unlock. Does anyone know what it is? Im on Sprint if it makes any difference.

this is to unlock your sim to work with other carriers. it is my understanding that this is done by sprint over the network using a new tech. a work around is in the works

I had a gs4T that had a sim card fail error. Not knowing if it was the card or the reader, the sprint store tech swapped out the card as a troubleshooting tactic. Apparently Sim card fails are relatively common. He had no problem taking a new card from his spares supply right there at the counter, scanning the bar code on it and entering my phone id into the system. Within a couple minutes it was back up and running. Unfortunately a day later the problem returned implicating the reader as the root cause. Any store with a decent tech can swap a card in moments.
