Found out the hard way that dialing *228 on Verizon not only is unnecessary, but will lock your sim card to 3G. The only fix is to get a new sim. It used to update the roaming list on 3g, but serves no purpose for 4G.

Not sure why or how but after doing this today I searched and found numerous reports on this. It is supposed to block you from calling that number but it didn't for me. I forgot to mention this is when you use option 2 at the prompt. Easy but annoying fix.

This has been the case since LTE capable phones have been rolling out on Verizon. *228 is not needed and is in fact not a good thing to do on an LTE capable phone. But it is always good to remind users and especially new users getting an LTE Verizon phone for the first time.
