A small amount of water got onto my phone and now the sound is muffled. There doesn't seem to be any other damage aside from this. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I don't have insurance on the phone, so I can't just get another one.

Even though its probably little late now you could try putting it in a bag of dry rice for a day and see if it draws any remaining moisture out.

Second.. I haven't pulled apart a newer device like the S4 but in older Galaxy S devices replacing the speaker was very simple once you took the screws out and pulled the phone backing off... Literally a small screw holding the speaker in place and follow the wire harness to where it plugs into the motherboard. No special tools were needed and it could be replaced in a few minutes.

So if your handy and feeling up to the challenge you could search out a new replacement speaker online from Amazon or eBay...
