Facebook msgs

Hello, im trying to get my messages sent from Facebook by friends to show that text bubble icon on the notifications window but, I, for the-life-of me cant figure out how to do this. When I switched phones, my other android phone was still receiving the bubble icon but my new phone wasnt. So I deleted the Facebook account on my old phone and activated it on this one but no luck. I visited FB and made sure all relevant areas are turned on for the notifications. Still, , again, no luck. Can someone kindly enlighten me please? Thanks.

Enable "chat heads" in the messenger app settings.

Im not using any apps for messenger. On my n4 when someone sent me a msg it just appeared on my phone. Do I have to install an app? I tried that messanger app but hated how the head bubbles appeared over my homescreen and deleted it. I just want a discreet notification that isnt invasive.

Ok, so I figured out that apparently I had to download the Facebook app. Lol. What an ***** I am. K.
