Pappy has an iPhone currently, and he seems to like it a lot. I have no idea why he wants to get the s4 if he already really likes his iPhone
I have a Moto X at this time. I had an iPhone 5, but I change around.

Don't kill me for suggesting this, but I think an iPhone might be the best option for you. You sound like somebody who values rock steady stability and is not willing to futz around and you also want a great camera that always works. That all sounds like iPhone to me.

A month ago, I would have been more skeptical about making that recommendation. But, I really do enjoy IOS 7. Honestly, if IOS had a swype like keyboard, and allowed for icons to be assigned to folders (so I don't have all those goofy boxes on the homescreen), I probably would have one right now.
I could put icons into folders on my i5. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you are saying.

You can put icons INTO folders, but you can't assign an icon to a folder. With Nova or Apex, you don't have a box on the screen that says "travel" and then has little travel icons. You just download a cool icon from somewhere on the web (like a plane flying) and assign it to the folder.

So, instead of a bunch of boxes on the homescreen with little white letters under them, I have an actual icon that meaningful.

Then, within the folder itself, I can assign any icon I want to the various applications.

Real nice! I got to look at and play with one the other day. It has that "fun to hold" kind of vibe, just like the iPhone.

While on the topic of iPhones and the s4, I was wondering what type of screen you guys prefer. Do you prefer AMOLED like on the s4, or IPS like the iPhone? Why?

    IPS. Outdoor visibility.

I do like the AMOLED indoors though.

I prefer the amoled most of the time because the colors are richer and even my husband who will never use anything except iPhone admits is beautiful but outside I miss my iPhone.

IPS for brightness and outdoor visibility. Also seems to have more natural color reproduction.

    AMOLED for truer blacks.

I prefer amoled myself because the colors are so good and the blacks are amazing. I really like ips as well though. Amoled does have its problems, but I don't think they are too much of an issue. I still prefer amoled over ips

I'm screen-tech agnostic. If the screen looks great it looks great. I will say that I use my phone way more indoors than out so I'd rather have great color and deep blacks than direct sunlight retina-burning brightness.

Yeah, but the IPS has more natural colors, and AMOLED has the deeper blacks. Both screens are great, IMHO.

I honestly don't want the natural colors, I like the ones that amoled has. I actually enjoy watching videos more on my phone than my Sony Google TV.

On iOS, you can't change the icon of a folder. So you're stuck with the rounded rectangle with nine small app icons inside it.

You do realize most of the IPS panels currently in production have saturated colors.... Just thought I'd mention it.
There are no problems in terms of colors/accuracy/contrast with devices using amoled screens, since they have very wide gamut the fault frankly lies with no color management on part of Android or apps. Anyone who owns a wide gamut professional IPS panel should realize this. Things WILL look saturated up the wazoo because of no color managements, while in professional applications accuracy shoots up through the roof.

If you read color reading charts, you will find very revealing numbers (S4's AMOLED screen is a bit more accurate than other panels except for individual case by case basis of the Iphone 5 pre iOS7).

Also if anyone has issues with brightness outdoors, just turn on auto mode, it will push it upwards of 460 nits versus the std 250~ nits on manual max brightness according to my readings.

I realize that the IPS panel on an iPhone has the most realistic colors.

Still difficult to read in sunlight, much more than the iPhone, or even the HTC One.
